Welcome to the Phoenix Chapter of Amigos de las Américas.

by Webmaster last modified Sunday, July 06, 2008, 02:52 PM

Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) is an international, not-for-profit organization with more than 25 chapters across the United States that provides unparalleled leadership and community service opportunities for young people while concurrently contributing to the well-being of hundreds of communities throughout the Americas.

Since its founding in 1965, more than 20,000 high school and college-age students have served as AMIGOS Volunteers.  Through their training and service experience they gain life-changing insights about other cultures, effective civic engagement and their personal potential.

AMIGOS gives young people an extraordinary opportunity to rise to the challenge of independently managing great responsibility within multicultural settings.  Extensive training programs teach youth valuable skills, such as how to build effective teams to foster sustainable community improvements.  Teams of two to four Volunteers live and work in host communities, conducting a wide array of health, education and environmental projects in collaboration with local youth.

The Phoenix Amigos Chapter was formed in 2006 and sent its first group of volunteers to Latin America during the summer of 2007.
